depths unknown

depths unknown

It's been just over a year since I changed careers into software development. Since then, it has been one continuous experience of drinking from the firehose--first learning how to build basic web applications by myself to now working on a complex enterprise application with a whole team of other developers. But still, the skillsets I attained from previous jobs remain some of the most used in my day-to-day.

Knowing when to ask for further clarification instead of assuming what a user might want. Phrasing the question for that clarification in a way that keeps lines of communication open. Encouraging team members to have good work-life boundaries to avoid burnout. Knowing when to ask for help and not being afraid of sounding like the biggest ding-dong in the room. Fixing things by turning it off and turning it back on again.

A year ago, jumping into the world of tech seemed like diving into a murky pond, but my skills from previous jobs has helped me keep my head above water as the water cleared. And I can now see how much bigger and deeper this world goes. As the days and weeks pass, I become more familiar with their depths, but there's still so much unknown far below the surface. And so I continue, adventuring!
