On the downhill slope!

On the downhill slope!

(I hope!)

Today marks the end of the second unit my software engineering course through Interapt/General Assembly. The past several weeks learning Java has been the most intellectually rigorous work that I've done in the past decade. (Bar review was summer of 2011!) I spent the past week working with a partner on building the back-end of a personal library application. It was the first time I'd done significant work with another person, and I've discovered new weaknesses (git merge!) and strengths (organizing and formatting code). All of this made more complex by the fact that the toddler has been home the entire time on COVID isolation!

During the project, it sometimes felt like I knew hardly anything, but at the very end of today we had a small retrospective where we looked at a chart of all the things we've covered during the Java unit. And holy cats, it's a lot of stuff! I'm hoping to spend more time building out features later on that we just weren't able to get to during the project time frame. Seeing everyone else's cool projects has me very excited about the possibilities of where I can take this lil library app in the future!

Only four weeks left, and I'm excited to start the lessons on Angular tomorrow and work towards connecting knowledge of front-end to back-end. A new goal is in sight!
